Operation Update: Tackling Anti-Social Motorbike Use in Tamworth

25th July marked the start of our targeted summer operation to tackle the anti-social use of off-road bikes, motorbikes, e-bikes and other similar vehicles across Tamworth. Throughout the summer months, neighbourhood officers will be carrying out dedicated enforcement activity, patrols and intelligence-led operations in hotspot locations across the town.

As part of this activity, officers engaged with a number of individuals identified through ongoing work over recent months as being involved in the anti-social use of motorcycles. In line with conditions attached to Community Protection Warnings and Community Protection Notices, checks were conducted on those individuals, their properties and their motorcycles presented to officers.

We are pleased to report that all individuals engaged with during the operation appear to have complied with the conditions imposed upon them. The motorcycles seen were all checked to ensure they met legal requirements for road use.

Alongside these visits, neighbourhood officers conducted patrols in key hotspot locations and gathered valuable intelligence relating to the use of motorbikes, e-bikes and similar vehicles. This information will help shape future operations, with robust action being taken against those found to be using vehicles in an anti-social manner or for criminal activity.

To conclude the weekend’s operation, officers on mobile patrol stopped a motorcyclist whose manner of driving was believed to be causing alarm, distress or annoyance to members of the public and other road users. The vehicle was subsequently seized under Section 59 of the Police Reform Act 2002.

Under recent legislative changes, officers now have greater powers to seize vehicles in appropriate circumstances without the requirement for a prior warning. The rider has also been reported for summons for the offence of driving without due care and attention.
